Introduction

The Tamiang watershed in Aceh Province has been plagued by flash floods and landslides, which have raised concerns about the sustainability of the region's ecosystems. In December 2006, a devastating flood hit the area, causing widespread damage and loss of life. In response to this disaster, the Tamiang watershed conservation program was launched to restore the damage and prevent similar disasters in the future. The Tamiang watershed is a vast area of 492,647.50 hectares, with 286,102.32 hectares designated as a conservation area. The study uses Landsat TM 5 satellite imagery from 2006, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and Hierarchical Process Analysis (AHP) to determine the type of plants that are most suitable for conservation programs.

This study divides the Tamiang watershed into three zones based on the height and slope of the slope:

Zone I: Athing 0-1200 meters above DPL and slope 0-15%
