The Covid-19 pandemic has further exacerbated this issue, with many young women getting married at a tender age. In this study, we aim to identify the factors that encourage early marriage in the village and explore the impact of this phenomenon on individuals and society.

Background

Early marriage is a complex issue that involves various factors, including personal desire, economic factors, and social pressures. In Sipapaga Village, the phenomenon of early marriage has been observed to be on the rise, with 132 young women getting married in a siri manner between 2020 and July 2022. In 2022 alone, there were 20 young women who got married early, with some of them still being students at the junior and senior high school levels. This study aims to explore the underlying factors that contribute to early marriage in the village and to identify the impact of this phenomenon on individuals and society.

The population studied included the entire community of Sipapaga Village, with informants consisting of teenagers who were married at the age of 16-18 years, six teenage parents, village leaders, two community leaders, and three KUA officers.
