Introduction

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition characterized by insulin resistance and impaired insulin secretion, leading to hyperglycemia. The disease has long been considered a "prothrombotic" condition, characterized by increased platelet reactivity and potential for platelet aggregation. This can lead to thrombogenesis and the development of atherosclerosis, which are major contributors to the development of microvascular complications in patients with type 2 DM. This study aims to analyze these parameters in patients with type 2 DM, both those who have microvascular complications and those who do not.

The study was designed to compare the values of MPV, PDW, and P-LCR between the two groups.

In detail, the MPV value was recorded at 9.97 ± 0.68 in groups without complications, compared to 9.81 ± 0.76 in groups with complications. Likewise, PDW and P-LCR showed the same pattern, with a value of 11.81 ± 1.55 and 24.93 ± 4.72 in the subject without complications, compared to 11.44 ± 1.50 and 23.79 ± 4.88 on the subject with complications. However, this difference did not reach the level of statistical significance (P> 0.05).

Conclusion

From the results of the analysis, no significant differences were found in the value of platelets (MPV, PDW, and P-LCR) between patients with type 2 DM who had microvascular complications and those who did not. This discovery provides additional insight into the complexity of the relationship between diabetes and platelet reactivity, and shows that although there are differences in platelet index values, this does not reflect the microvascular condition significantly. Further research is needed to dig deeper about other factors that contribute to the development of complications in diabetics.
