Application of Cox Proportional Hazard Regression in the Analysis of Interest and Identification of Risk Factors (Case Study of Cervical Cancer Patients with Hospital H Adam Malik Medan in 2009)

Introduction

Statistical analysis is a crucial component in understanding the behavior of various diseases, including cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is a leading cause of death among women worldwide, and its analysis is essential in identifying risk factors and developing effective prevention and intervention strategies. In this study, we aim to apply Cox proportional hazard regression in analyzing the data of cervical cancer patients treated at the Central General Hospital (RSUP) H Adam Malik Medan in 2009. The primary objective is to calculate the probability of one-year intake for cervical cancer patients and identify the risk factors that affect their survival.

Methodology

The analysis of intake is a statistical method used to analyze data related to time until the occurrence of an event. In the context of cervical cancer, this analysis is vital in understanding the disease's progression and identifying the factors that influence patient survival. The Kaplan-Meier method is used to estimate the probability of patient intake, while Cox regression is employed as a model to describe the patient's risk based on the factors that affect their survival.

Results

The results of the study showed that the probability of one-year intake for cervical cancer patients after receiving treatment reached 56.8%. This indicates that more than half of cervical cancer patients can survive at least one year after diagnosis and treatment. However, not all patients have the same risk. The Cox regression model revealed that patients in an advanced stage have a risk of death 11,442 times greater than those who are in the initial stage. Additionally, patients suffering from other diseases have a risk of death 0.114 times greater than patients who do not suffer from other diseases.

Discussion

The analysis of intake is a valuable tool in understanding the behavior of cervical cancer and identifying risk factors that affect patient survival. By knowing these factors, health professionals can design more effective prevention and intervention strategies to improve the quality of life of patients. For instance, focusing on early detection of cervical cancer and more aggressive treatment for patients diagnosed at an advanced stage can help reduce the mortality rate.

Furthermore, the findings regarding the effect of accompanying diseases highlight the need for a multidisciplinary approach in handling cancer patients. Collaboration between cancer specialists and doctors handling other diseases will be more effective in designing a comprehensive treatment plan. Through this research, it is expected to create greater awareness about the importance of an analysis of intake in the treatment of cancer and the need for attention to individual risk factors in designing a better treatment strategy for patients.

Conclusion

The application of Cox regression and intake analysis becomes a very valuable tool in the management of cervical cancer, providing guidance to increase patient life opportunities and minimize the risk of death. This study is expected to be the basis for further study in this field and for the development of better health policies for cervical cancer sufferers in Indonesia.
