Analysis of Factors To Find Out the Reason for Mothers to Choose Delivery at Home by Midwives in the Working Area of Lubuk Jambi Health Center, Kuantan Singingi Regency, Riau Province in 2015

Introduction

Labor is a crucial moment in a woman's life, and the selection of places and exact delivery of labor is very influential on the health of the mother and baby. However, research in the working area of the Lubuk Jambi Health Center in 2015 shows that there are still many mothers who choose to give birth at home with the help of midwives. This phenomenon raises questions about the factors that influence mothers' decisions to give birth at home. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors that encourage mothers to choose to give birth at home in the working area of the Lubuk Jambi Health Center.

Methodology

This study uses a cross-sectional analytic survey method to identify the factors that encourage mothers to choose to give birth at home. Data was collected from 60 mothers who gave birth at home with the help of midwives, chosen using quota sampling techniques. Exploratory factor analysis is used to reduce 15 variables into several main factors.

Results

The analysis results show that 13 significant variables with MSA value> 0.5, and form 4 main factors that influence the choice of mothers giving birth at home:

Economic Factors and Access

This factor includes limited delivery costs in health facilities, home distance to remote health facilities, as well as difficulty access to transportation. The economic factor is a significant influence on mothers' decisions to give birth at home. Many mothers in the working area of the Lubuk Jambi Health Center face financial constraints, making it difficult for them to afford delivery services in health facilities. Additionally, the distance to health facilities and lack of transportation options also contribute to the decision to give birth at home.

Interpersonal Factors

This factor includes good relations with midwives, trust in the ability of midwives, as well as positive experiences with previous delivery at home. Interpersonal relationships play a crucial role in mothers' decisions to give birth at home. Many mothers in the working area of the Lubuk Jambi Health Center have good relationships with midwives, which increases their trust in the ability of midwives to provide safe and quality delivery services at home.

Characteristics and Perception of Labor

This factor includes the mother's perception of delivery at a safe and comfortable home, negative experience in health facilities, and the desire to give birth naturally. Mothers' perceptions of labor and delivery are also significant influences on their decisions to give birth at home. Many mothers in the working area of the Lubuk Jambi Health Center perceive delivery at home as a safe and comfortable option, and they are also motivated by the desire to give birth naturally.

Support Factor

This factor includes support from the family and the surrounding environment, as well as the belief that labor at home is more private and controlled. Support from family and the surrounding environment is also an important factor in mothers' decisions to give birth at home. Many mothers in the working area of the Lubuk Jambi Health Center receive support from their families and the surrounding environment, which increases their confidence in giving birth at home.

Conclusion

This study concluded that economic factors, access, interpersonal relationships, characteristics and perceptions of childbirth, and support are the main reasons for mothers to choose to give birth at home. This finding becomes important to increase the professionalism of midwives in providing labor services, so as to motivate the community to choose to give birth in health facilities.

Recommendations

Improving the quality of services in health facilities is the key to changing mothers' behavior in choosing a place of childbirth. Health facilities need to provide affordable services, easily accessible, and in accordance with the needs of mothers. Education and socialization about the importance of childbirth in health facilities also needs to be done intensively. In addition, public confidence needs to be increased in health workers, especially midwives. This can be done by increasing the competence and professionalism of midwives, as well as building good communication with patients.

Implications

With joint efforts, it is hoped that labor in Indonesia can be safer and more quality, both at home and at health facilities. This study provides valuable insights into the factors that influence mothers' decisions to give birth at home, and it highlights the need for improvements in the quality of services in health facilities. By addressing these factors, it is possible to increase the number of mothers who choose to give birth in health facilities, which can lead to better health outcomes for mothers and babies.
