Introduction

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide, and its complications can be severe, especially in the legs. Good knowledge and attitude towards foot care can significantly reduce the risk of these complications. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the effectiveness of different methods in increasing the knowledge and attitude of foot care among diabetes patients. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of group counseling and media video health promotion in increasing the knowledge and attitude of foot care among diabetes patients at the Diabetes Puskesmas Clinic Frequent Medan in 2013.

Background

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by high blood sugar levels, which can lead to various complications, including foot problems. Foot problems are a common complication of diabetes, and they can be severe, leading to amputation, disability, and even death. Good knowledge and attitude towards foot care can significantly reduce the risk of these complications. This study used an experimental quasi design with purposive sampling techniques. The results of this study show that both group counseling and media video health promotion are effective in increasing the knowledge and attitude of foot care among diabetes patients. However, the results of the Independent T-Test show that there is no significant difference between the two methods in terms of improving attitudes. This shows that although both methods are effective, group counseling may provide added value in terms of participant involvement.

The results of this study suggest that group counseling may be a more effective method in increasing the knowledge and attitude of foot care among diabetes patients.
