Analysis of Factors that Influence Electricity Consumption for the Household of the Community of Tembung Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency

Introduction

The increasing demand for electricity in households has become a significant concern in recent years. As the world's population continues to grow, so does the demand for electricity, leading to a significant increase in energy consumption. In Indonesia, the demand for electricity is expected to continue growing, with the government aiming to increase the country's energy production to meet the growing demand. However, this growth in energy demand also poses a significant challenge to the country's energy infrastructure, leading to concerns about energy efficiency and the reduction of excessive electricity consumption.

In this study, we aim to analyze the factors that influence household electricity consumption in Tembung Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. Through a survey involving 100 respondents, we aim to reveal the effect of average family income, the number of family members, and the area of home building on electricity consumption. The analysis method used is Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) with the logarithmic linear regression model, which is processed using the EViews 5.0 program.

Literature Review

The demand for electricity in households is influenced by various factors, including average family income, the number of family members, and the area of home building. Research has shown that households with higher average incomes tend to consume more electricity, as they are more likely to own energy-intensive appliances and devices (1). Methodology

The survey aims to collect data on household electricity consumption, including average family income, the number of family members, and the area of home building. The analysis method used is Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) with the logarithmic linear regression model, which is processed using the EViews 5.0 program.

Results

The estimated results show that the average family income, the number of family members, and the area of the house building have a positive influence on household electricity consumption in Tembung Village. Average family income and house building area have a significant influence on household electricity consumption. This shows that the higher the average income of the family and the more the area of the house building, the higher the electricity consumption.

The number of family members, on the other hand, does not show a significant effect on household electricity consumption in Tembung Village. This may be caused by several factors, such as the use of the same electronic equipment in various households with different family members.

Discussion

The results of this study show that average family income and house building area have a significant influence on household electricity consumption in Tembung Village. This suggests that households with higher average incomes and larger homes tend to consume more electricity. However, the number of family members does not show a significant effect on household electricity consumption, which may be caused by the use of the same electronic equipment in various households with different family members.

Further analysis can be done to uncover other factors that might affect household electricity consumption in Tembung Village. For example, the type of electronic equipment owned, the frequency of using electronic equipment, and the habit of using electricity. Knowledge of the factors that influence household electricity consumption is important to increase energy efficiency and reduce excessive electricity consumption.

In conclusion, this study aims to analyze the factors that influence household electricity consumption in Tembung Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency.
