Application of Agricultural Extension Communication Methods to Farmers Groups in Aceh Tamiang Regency

Introduction

Agricultural extension services play a crucial role in promoting agricultural development and improving the livelihoods of farmers. In Aceh Tamiang Regency, the Gemah Rifah I farmer group in Jamur Labu Village, Rantau District, has been receiving support from field extension officers (PPL) to enhance their agricultural productivity and income. This study aims to identify the application of agricultural extension communication methods used by PPL in the Gemah Rifah I farmer group. By using a qualitative approach in a case study, researchers conducted interviews and observations of informants consisting of PPL, Chairman of the Gemah Rifah I Farmers Group, as well as members of the farmer group.

Methodology

This study was conducted during the April to June 2016 period. The data collected includes a combination of primary and secondary data, which is then analyzed through triangulation to ensure the accuracy of the results of interviews and related observations. The qualitative approach used in this study allows for a deeper understanding of the application of communication methods used by PPL in the Gemah Rifah I farmer group.

Dominant Communication Method

In the application of communication methods, PPL uses a group approach through organizing routine meetings. This method is considered more effective, because the information conveyed can be well received by farmers in a directed, regular, and sustainable manner. In this case, PPL conveys information directly to farmers. This makes it easy to deliver the material needed in an efficient time.
