The Use of Fermented Palm Oil Fronds with Various Levels of Biomol+ in Feed on Male Local Sheep Carcasses

Introduction

The use of fermented palm oil fronds with various levels of biomol+ in feed has been gaining attention in recent years as a potential alternative to traditional feed sources for livestock. This study, led by Ahmad Husin Hutabarat in 2014, aims to evaluate the impact of the use of fermented oil palm fronds with various levels of biomols+ in feed on male local sheep carcasses. The research design applied is a Complete Random Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, then further tested using the Least Significant Difference (LSD) method. The parameters analyzed include empty body weight, carcass weight, carcass percentage, subcutaneous fat, kidney fat, pelvic fat, and heart fat.

Results

The results of the study showed that the average empty body weight (kg) for P0 was 6.6, P1 was 6.67, P2 was 7.31, and P3 was 10.11. The average carcass weight (kg) for P0 is 2.43, P1 is 2.54, P2 is 2.81, and P3 is 3.93. The average percentage of carcass (%) for P0 is 36.85, P1 is 38.05, P2 is 38.46, and P3 is 38.74. The percentage of subcutaneous fat (%) for P0 is 4.52, P1 is 2.83, P2 is 1.88, and P3 is 2.05. The average percentage of pelvic fat (%) for P0 is 0.15, P1 is 0.16, P2 is 0.14, and P3 is 0.11. The average percentage of kidney fat (%) for P0 is 1.44, P1 is 1.19, P2 is 1.27, and P3 is 0.88. The average percentage of heart fat (%) for P0 is 0.70, P1 is 0.67, P2 is 0.56, and P3 is 0.46.

Discussion

Statistical analysis shows that the use of fermented palm oil fronds with various levels of biomol+ in feed has a very significant effect on empty weight and carcass weight. In addition, there is a significant effect on the percentage of subcutaneous fat, but there is no significant effect on the percentage of carcass, the percentage of pelvic fat, the percentage of kidney fat, and the percentage of heart fat.

The results of this study have important implications for the development of alternative feed in sheep farms, especially in increasing the efficiency of feed conversion into higher quality meat products. By understanding the results of this study, farmers can explore the use of local feed ingredients such as fermented palm oil fronds to support the sustainability and productivity of their livestock business.
