Introduction

Flies are a significant threat to health, particularly in the livestock cage environment. The presence of flies can cause the spread of digestive tract diseases such as cholera, typhus, and dysentery. This happens because flies carry bacteria and viruses from dirty places to food and drinks consumed by humans. In the Chicken Farm Cage in South Kualuh District, the density of flies reached an average of 29.4 tails per grill block, far above the standard environmental quality standard set by Permenkes RI No. 50 of 2017, which is less than 2 flies.

The objective of this study is to find effective solutions in controlling the population of flies in the chicken farm cage. This study tests the effectiveness of flies made of mineral water plastic bottles that are modified using adhesive glue as an attractant. The use of adhesive glue as an attractant is a novel approach in controlling fly populations, and its effectiveness has not been extensively studied.

Methodology

This study was conducted in June 2020 at a chicken farm cage in Hamlet 2 Mount Lonteng, Lobuhuala Village, South Kualuh District. The three types of adhesive glue tested are iat glue, leila glue, and mouse glue. Each type of glue is used as much as 75 ml in a modified mineral water plastic bottle. The study used the Quasi Experiment design with Post Test Only With Control Group. Observations were made for 6 replications at 3 measurement points, with observation and recording carried out every 1 hour.

Results

The results showed that rat glue proved more effective in trapping flies compared to leila glue and glue. The average number of flies trapped in traps with IAT glue attractants is 40 tails, 41 leila glue, and 47 mouse glue. One Way Anova statistical test at a significance degree of significance shows a significant difference in the number of flies trapped between the three variations of attractants.

Discussion

This study provides recommendations for the owner of the chicken farm cage to use the modification of mineral water plastic bottles with mouse glue as an effective fly trap. The use of these traps is expected to help reduce the density of flies in the cage and improve the quality of environmental health around the cage.

Further analysis of the results shows that mouse glue has a stronger appeal for flies compared to two other types of glue. This is probably caused by mouse glue formulas that contain ingredients that are more attractive to flies, such as the aroma of food or distinctive odor.
