Introduction

Optimal water consumption is a crucial factor that affects plant growth and development. In this study, we analyze the rate of water consumption in kale plants (Brassica oleraceae var. Achepala). This study was conducted using three different treatments, namely treatment A (100% field capacity), treatment B (75% field capacity), and treatment C (50% field capacity). With this approach, we aim to understand how the various levels of water availability affect the consumption and yields of kale crops.

Materials and Methods

The study was conducted in a controlled environment with three different treatments. Treatment A received 100% of the field capacity, treatment B received 75% of the field capacity, and treatment C received 50% of the field capacity. The plants were watered daily, and the water consumption was measured using a precise measuring device. The harvest was obtained after 14 days of treatment.

Results

The results showed that treatment A, where plants received 100% of the field capacity, had an average water consumption of 383 ml/day. With a high level of water consumption, the harvest obtained was 115 grams. Meanwhile, in treatment B with 75% of the field capacity, the average water consumption was recorded at 292 ml/day, but the yield increased to 180 grams. Treatment C, where only 50% of the available field capacity, produced an average water consumption of 199 ml/day, with the lowest harvest of 73 grams.

Discussion

From the data above, it can be seen that the rate of water consumption is directly proportional to the harvest in treatment A and B. However, interestingly, although treatment B has lower water consumption than treatment A, the harvest is even higher. This shows that kale plants can adapt well to water conditions that are slightly limited, so that it can produce more optimal harvest with more efficient water consumption.

In terms of water productivity, treatment A has a water productivity value of 0.0012 kg/m³, treatment B reaches 0.0025 kg/m³, and treatment C is 0.0014 kg/m³. From here, it is clear that treatment B not only provides optimal crop yields, but also the efficiency of better water use, which is an important factor in sustainable agriculture.

This study provides valuable insight into the importance of management of water consumption in the cultivation of kale plants.
