Introduction

Tofu liquid waste, often regarded as garbage, has been found to store great potential as liquid organic fertilizer for plants, particularly Sawi Kailan (Brassica Oleracea var. Alboglabra (L. H. Bailey) Musil). A study conducted at the Plant Physiology Laboratory and Plant Tissue Culture, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of North Sumatra, from May to August 2019, aimed to explore the effect of tofu waste incubation time with the effective microorganism (EM) on plant morphysiological responses Kailan.

In addition, there was a significant increase in the relative growth rate (RGR) in the second, third, and sixth week after treatment, as well as an increase in the number of leaves, canopy biomass, root/canopy ratio, and chlorophyll content b. However, this positive effect began to decline in the fifth to seventh week, where no significant effect was found on some growth parameters such as plant height, RGR, leaf area, root biomass, and chlorophyll content a.

Results and Discussion

The results of the study showed that the incubation time of tofu liquid waste with EM for 36 hours and 60 hours was the most effective time to increase the growth of Kailan plants. This suggests that the fermentation process with EM can convert tofu liquid waste into a source of nutrition that is beneficial for plants. The process of incubation of tofu liquid waste with EM also facilitates the formation of active compounds that encourage plant growth.
