Background of the Study

The study was conducted in December 2010, using the S-O-R (stimulus-response) theory approach. The stimulus in question was a message or information in the communication process in the organization, the organism was an employee of PT Indosat Tbk Medan City, and the response was work motivation they exhibited. The method used in this study was a correlational method, which aims to find the relationship between one variable with another variable. In data analysis, researchers utilized a single table and hypothesis test through the formula for the Spearman rank order correlation coefficient.

Methodology

The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling, where samples were taken from a population that had been determined certain criteria, namely frontliner employees who had worked for at least three years. The study aimed to find the relationship between the culture of communication in organizations and employee work motivation at PT Indosat Tbk Medan City.

Results

The results of the study showed that the Rank Spearman correlation coefficient had a RHO value that was greater than zero. This means that the culture of communication in organizations has a positive effect in increasing employee work motivation at PT Indosat Tbk Medan City. Interestingly, this relationship is also indicated to have a high and strong value.
