Introduction

Palm Oil Factory (PKS) Tg. Seuentoh, established in 1977, is one of the key assets of PTPN I, located in Karang Baru District, Aceh Tamiang Regency. As a major contributor to palm oil production in Aceh Tamiang and the entire North Aceh District (NAD), PKS Tg. Seuentoh plays a vital role in increasing production yields. With a processing capacity of 60 tons of Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) per hour, the factory produces a significant output, contributing 25% to the increase in production yields.

Background

The palm oil industry is a significant contributor to the economy of many countries, including Indonesia. Wastewater Treatment Analysis

The analysis shows that with a processing capacity of 720 m3/day, the TG PKS Waste Water Treatment System still has several deficiencies and requires the addition of units to increase effectiveness. The system consists of anaerobic, aerobic, facultative, aeration, and final pond ponds.

Pollutant Reduction Efficiency

The evaluation results show that the system is able to reduce BOD and COD significantly, reaching 80.644% overall. The following details the efficiency of BOD and COD reduction in each pool:

Effluent Quality

Although the processing system has been effective in reducing pollutants, the results of the study show that BOD Effluent is 48.38 mg/L and COD Effluent of 290.3 mg/L. Although this value has met the standards set by the LH Kepmen, there is space to improve the quality of effluent to make it more environmentally friendly.

Recommendations for System Improvement

To achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness of waste treatment and minimize negative impacts on the environment, some recommendations can be applied:

Pool capacity building: Considering the addition of pond capacity to accommodate greater waste volume and maximize processing efficiency.
Optimization of processing stages: Improving the performance of each pool by optimizing the processing and retention time regulation.
Implementation of Processing Technology: Assessing the application of more sophisticated waste treatment technology such as bioreactor membranes or electrocoagulation technology to improve effluent quality.
Periodic monitoring and evaluation: Performing periodic monitoring and evaluation of wastewater quality and processing system performance to ensure optimal effectiveness and efficiency.

Conclusion

This study shows that the TG PKS Waste Water Treatment System has succeeded in reducing pollutants significantly, but there is still space to improve in order to achieve more optimal environmental efficiency and sustainability. Through the application of the proposed recommendations, PKS Tg. Seuentoh can continue to improve the performance of the processing system and contribute to maintaining environmental sustainability around the operational area.
